Academic Librarians can offer help and guidance with using library resources, literature searching, managing your references and keeping up-to-date with your research topic. They are happy to provide one-to-one training sessions. To make an appointment contact the Academic Librarian for your subject area.

The Library has a large selection of books, both print and electronic, to support you research. These can be found by using our LibrarySearch tool. LibrarySearch is a federated search engine that searches most of Abertay's resources in one easy search. It can be a a good place to start searching for journal articles as it will highlight individual databases that may be good for your research topic. The Resources A-Z lists all the electronic book collections and journal databases that the Library subscribes to. More information on using the library and its services can be found on the library pages Finding Resources.

Information about the University's research strategy, the next REF, and training for researchers is available from the Graduate School.

Keeping up-to-date

Many online services including the journal databases subscribed to by Abertay allow you to setup an alerting service. This saves you from having to repeatedly search to find out if something new has been published in your research area. You can be notified by e-mail or RSS feed about new journal issues or about new articles which match your search criteria. See our guide on useful tools for Setting up alerts

Journal TOCS  is a web-based service which allows you to set up email alerts or RSS feeds to track the latest articles or journal titles related to your interests. A guide to using Journal TOCS is available online. If you need help with setting up these alerts contact your Academic Librarian.

Cited Reference Searching allows you to find out where key articles in your research area have been cited in more recent works. A useful way of finding out how ideas and research have developed over time. This service is available through the Web of Science

The websites of professional bodies and organisations related to your area of research can be useful sources of up-to-date information. Many now offer a News section or Blog which highlight new developments.
