Level 2 closure during July
The Library refurbishment project is continuing apace and you are reminded that Levels 3 and 4 will remain closed all summer and the majority of our book stock is in remote storage. From Tuesday 10th July work will be carried out to replace the balustrades in the Library, helping to reduce noise travelling from the foyer to the upper floors. In order to allow this important work to take place Level 2 will also be closed.
During these works, which are expected to take 3 weeks, access to the Social Learning Space on Level 1 of the Library and to SEZ will be via the Library cafe entrance. The Library (Level 1 only) and SEZ will be open Monday-Friday from 09:00-17:00 during this time.
Study space and PC access
As only Level 1 will remain open during this 3 week period, there will be very limited study space and PC availability in the Library. During this time students should use the Whitespace pods 1551 & 1553 and also Room 3516 for PC access.
Summer Collection book retrieval service
The Level 2 closure means that there will be no access to the Summer Collection - a small collection of high-demand print books, consisting of essential and/or recommended titles on Term 2 and Term 3 reading lists. However, you will still be able to borrow from this as we will provide a book retrieval service. To request a book from the Summer Collection just check the details of any title(s) you wish to borrow on LibrarySearch (Title, author, call number etc.) and let us know. You can either email the Library on firstname.lastname@example.org or you can contact SEZ in person or via instant chat. If the item is not on loan it will be ready for you to collect on the same day (if requested before 15:00) and if requested after 15:00 you can collect the following morning - please pick up requested items from SEZ.
All items in the summer collection are either 1-week or 4-week loans. Unless requested by another user, 1-week and 4-week loan items will automatically be renewed twice for the same period. This would mean that if no request is placed, you can keep a 1-week loan for three weeks and a 4-week loan for twelve weeks. We will alert you by email of the amended due date(s). After this, we ask that you return your items. You can keep track of your loans and due dates via your Library Account.
Additional copies of items in remote storage
Please note: all of our physical book stock will still be searchable on LibrarySearch. The items that are available in the Summer Collection will display as available but all items that are in remote storage will show as ‘Currently Unavailable for Lending’. As we will not be able to access any of the stock that is in remote storage during the summer, we will purchase an additional copy of any required titles where available. Additional copies may be purchased as an eBook or print copy via rush delivery depending on availability (eBook copies will be available sooner) All purchase requests for an additional copy of an item that is in remote storage will be handled individually; although we will endeavor to provide access to an additional copy, it may not always be possible. Please email any requests to email@example.com or go to SEZ and they will pass them on to us.
If you have any queries about access to resources during the refurbishment please email firstname.lastname@example.org
