What is the best way to revise for exams?
- Create a realistic revision plan. Consider:
- Your other commitments during your revision period (e.g., work, family, sports events).
- How well you feel you know the content of the module.
- How long the exam is (you can revise in chunks of the same length).
- Check you are revising the right information.
- Revise actively.
- Make use of past papers where they are available.
Active Revision Techniques
It is easy to read over your notes, perhaps copy them out again or highlight keywords but these actions are, in revision terms, passive.
You need to do something with the information you have. You could:
- Summarise the notes you have on each topic.
- Turn the information you have into a mind map.
- Work with a friend to create questions from the information you have and then test one another.
- Present or teach what you know.
